Some Essential Manager Traits:
1. Takes initiative
According to the Harrison Assessment profile for managment roles, one of the most essential traits is your level of initiative, your ability and willingness to make the first move. This single trait is heavily influential to your suitability score, the higher your score on this trait, the higher your overall suitability score. Being as such, this trait should be scored in the 90's.
- High initiative score, you have enough confidence in your abilities to lead and provide opportunities to your team and guidelines that aligns with expectations and goals.
- Low Initiative score, lack of tendency to take the lead. The lack of expectations and guidelines set may leave your staff feeling confused, disorganized and unmotivated.
2. Meets Challenges
Another essential trait is your willingness to accept and meet challenges.
- High "wants challenge" score means you are highly motivated by projects that push your boundaries; the strong need for challenging work will have extremely positive impact on your performance but conversely, you may be more likely to leave an employer if there is a lack of challenging work offered.
- Low "wants challenge" score can be due to many external and internal factors, you may no longer find your work motivating or, your lack of confidence in your abilities to successfully meet the challenges due to a previous performance speed bump.
3. Willingness to be Authoritative
A third essential manager trait in Harrison Assessment is authoritative, defined as your readiness to accept decision making responsibilities. This does not mean autocracy, in which it is your way or the highway but, your confidence in your capabilities that enables you to lead, delegate responsibilities and, be accountable for your decisions.
- High Authoritative score means you are comfortable making decisions. From a development perspective you will also need a relatively high score on your collaborative trait, being open to suggestions.
- Low authoritative score, your indecision and inability to delegate will result poorly on your team's performance and morale.
