Are Canadians Vacation Deprived?
More than 47% of 4800 Canadian employees say they are in more of a need of a vacation this year than any previous four years, according to Expedia.ca, Vacation Deprivation Survey. When you do the math, this equates to workers giving back an average of 2.17 of unused vacation days to their employers translating to $6.02 billion in wages back to the company. This comes as no surprise, with the result of the economy's downturn last year; workers are taking increasing workloads and high expectations.
What Are Canadians' Vacation Plans This Year?

Working while on vacation is a common expectation these days. 49% of employers say they expect employees to periodically check in occasionally but, the content must be of priority. 37% indicated that it is necessary if they are only working on a significant project or when a major issue arises. Companies working with smaller staff numbers may feel the negative impact when even one person is out of the office. Plan ahead and decide "Who Will Do The Work While You're Gone?"
More than 22% of surveys have cancelled vacation plans in the past because of work.
