November 2009: 5 – Point Resume Check Assessment
How to Sell Your Achievements
Good Points
- Incorporated a small by-line and location of your sales territory
- Good mix of awards and sales results
- Clear and concise layout
1. Be Original
In order to quickly grasp the viewer’s attention avoid starting your resume with a cookie cutter objective. The top ¼ of your resume is where you want to really sell your achievements and skills.

Define your role in the organization and relate that to your objective.
2. Take Out the Fluff
As a successful Account Manager it is already a given you are an excellent communicator.
Take these lines out. Use this extra space to highlight your achievements.
3. Be Results Driven
Sell your success by incorporating results into your statements.
It is much more powerful to say, “by providing exceptional customer service the number of repeat customers increased by 50% over 4 years” rather than “I provide exceptional customer service”
4. Show Your Career Progression
It is rare to find someone who has been with the same company for more than 12 years. If you have this, sell it!

During your 13 years it is assumed there were some career progression. Expand on this, if your job title did not change did your responsibilities?
5. Brand it Like Starbucks
We tend to gravitate towards what we know versus the unknown. Starbucks, Nike, Future Shop are some well - recognized brands. Use their selling power to sell your resume.

Give examples of your major regional accounts and dealers.
