Goldbeck Welcomes Two New Interns from Germany
My name is Julia Bormann and I am from Bonn, Germany. I am studying labour market management at the University of Applied Labour Studies in Mannheim and I am 23 years old.
My name is Lena Schatz and I am based in a little village near Nuremberg in the south of Germany. I am 20 years old and will turn 21 in August. I am a student of the University of Applied Labour Studies in Mannheim, just as Julia.
Have you been to other countries before coming to Canada?
Since I love to travel I have been to a few different countries before and there are still a lot I would like to go someday. I have been to different countries in Europe before, e.g. Spain, Croatia and Italy. Last year I went to Mexico and the year before I have been to South Africa which was a great experience.
I had the chance to see some different countries by now. In the past I have been to different spots in and around Europe with my parents. I especially liked Greece, the Provence in France and Austria to go skiing. Moreover, I really enjoyed my vacation in the Dominican Republic and Mexico. Unfortunately I could not spend more than two weeks abroad before, so that is what just leads to the next question.
What is the purpose of your internship?
As Lena already mentioned, we were both keen on spending a longer period of time abroad, especially in a non-European country. We are interested in learning more about other cultures and ways of living. Due to the fact that we had the same expectations concerning our internship, we decided to apply for an internship together. Of course one of the reasons for our internship was to extend our English skills. But that was not the only reason; we also wanted to seize the chance to experience a different working environment.
Why did you choose Canada for your internship?
Since Julia already spent about a month on Vancouver Island during school, she appreciates Canada very much, especially for its beautiful landscape and friendly people.
After showing some pictures to Lena and telling her about the experiences, she was immediately convinced of spending the internship in Canada. The positive feedback of former students concerning Goldbeck Recruiting Inc. confirmed our plan to spend an internship in Canada. The fact that Vancouver is rated as one of the cities with the highest quality of life in the world also made us curious.
Are there any tourist locations in Vancouver that you’re excited to visit?
We already arrived in Vancouver one week before the internship started. Therefore we got to see some tourist attractions by now. We went to Granville Island and the beautiful market, did a bicycle tour along the Waterfront and visited the famous parade on Canada Day. What we are looking forward to discover are the different districts, like Gastown and Yaletown.
Moreover, we are hoping for some sunny days to go for a walk in Stanley Park and get tanned at the beautiful beaches. Even if it is not in the center of Vancouver, we would like to visit the Capilano Suspension Bridge and Grouse Mountain.
