Happy Turkey Day from Goldbeck Recruiting!

After the long hot summer that gripped most parts of Canada this year, many Canadians are looking forward to this autumn for the cooler temperatures, brightly coloured foliage, and pumpkin-spiced treats. But the real highlight of this season is undoubtedly Thanksgiving, often affectionately referred to as “Turkey Day”!

Although Canadians have only been celebrating Thanksgiving on the second Monday of October since 1957, the tradition can be traced all the way back to 1879 as an annual celebration of the year’s bountiful harvest and general thanksgiving for all good things in life.

As one of the least commercialized Canadian holidays celebrated today, Thanksgiving has become one of the most low-stress occasions because it’s less focused on gift giving and more focused on spending quality time with loved ones and eating good food. It is the favourite holiday of many Canadians, as suggested by the three million turkeys that are sold in Canada every Thanksgiving.

In the office, Thanksgiving is a great time to recognize the efforts of your employees or coworkers, whether that’s by bringing in coffee and donuts for all to share or by simply writing a quick email to thank someone for all they do to make your life at the office easier.

Take advantage of this autumn long weekend to leave your work at work and get some well-deserved R&R with friends and family.

And yes, you are totally justified in helping yourself to a guilt-free third serving of pumpkin pie!
