Working with the Finance team, the Associate Director of Finance improves and implements the financial policies, systems, and processes.  The Associate Director will be responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and managing the overall financial reporting efforts of the organization, ensuring integrity of transactions, transparency to stakeholders, and continuous quality improvement.  Maintain and enhance program controls and policies to reduce the risk of any errors. Associate Director of Finance will provide support on the investigation of any complaints regarding the Finance Department’s delivery of services to internal and external stakeholders.

 

Ability to work with, and empathize with people experiencing abuse, poverty, family violence, cross-cultural issues, addictions, AIDS, and other life-limiting illnesses, mental illness, and the grief process.

Responsibilities:

  • Improves and implements financial policies, systems and processes.
  • Responsible for implementing and managing appropriate financial management processes.
  • Works closely with both operational and administrative teams.
  • Manage annual year end audit including the preparation/review of working papers.
  • Managing payments to vendors and payments from clients through implemented software.
  • Maintain and monitor tax compliance, tax filing, tax planning and reporting.
  • Maintenance of the General Ledger and its account structures.
  • Manage the preparation of required financial reports stakeholders (Vancouver Coastal Health, BC Housing and other stakeholders);
  • Research regulatory and governance matters as required
  • Prepare financial forecasts to reflect current projections to plan.
  • Assisting the leadership team in making decisions through world-class reporting and financial discipline.
  • Coordinate the budgeting process and manage and control expenses within budget.
  • Oversees: Adult Guardianship program and designated areas of Finance
  • Works closely with Human Resources and payroll staff.
  • Ability to switch gears and manage multiple finance or operations projects while delivering results on schedule.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • CPA or equivalent.
  • Public practice training is a plus
  • 5 years of advanced experience in compliance, operational risk management, business process management or financial services. ideally in a growing company.
  • Experience in organizations operating in multiple locations and business units.
  • Extensive knowledge of Canadian accounting legislation and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of Canadian accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial financial and taxation regulations.
  • Experience working with CRMs and Sage 300 or other accounting software.
  • Experience working with Public Guardian Trustee, BC Housing and Health Authorities would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Compliance Risk Assessment process.
  • Demonstrated understanding of regulatory compliance and/or risk management policies and procedures.
  • Excellent judgment and proven problem-solving skills.
  • Desire and ability to take full ownership of projects and produce high quality work.
  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools; including Excel pivot tables.
  • Strong research and planning skills required to provide support and guidance to the management team.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with a “hands on” approach to managing the accounting function.
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
