This is an opportunity to take on the role of Chief Operating Officer in a thriving, well-established business supplying high-end materials from Europe into the construction industry and offering specialized installation services throughout British Columbia in a coveted role as industry leader.

The new hire will work from the company’s headquarters in Burnaby, overseeing all aspects of the company’s operations, ranging from: supervising complex sales quotations; generating, negotiating, and closing orders; materials purchasing, manufacturing, and installation; as well as finance, legal, marketing, and HR functions. You are a forward-thinking individual able to provide the company with high-level, strategic leadership as it moves into new market segments, while at the same time respecting the company’s close-knit origins and maintaining its bespoke service provision to architectural and construction clients in the mature but high-growth industry in which it built its excellent reputation.

The ideal candidate is someone with 10-15 years of experience in senior management, an entrepreneurial spirit, the necessary business acumen to manage and enhance relationships with key accounts, as well as a sophisticated and modern approach to processes and procedures. In the near to mid-term, the Chief Operating Officer is expected to succeed the company’s founders in their current, day-to-day management role. This position will report into the Executive Management Team and Board of Directors.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Executive Management Team to develop business strategies to meet company’s current and future objectives.
  • Oversee the successful performance of the company’s business operations, achievement and advancement of its financial goals, and the assumption and fulfillment of its contractual obligations.
  • Conceive business plans and engage necessary financial, human, and material resources.
  • Oversee an expansion of the company’s marketing function.
  • Modernize the company’s web based and electronic procedures and processes.
  • Ensure respect for relevant safety programs, laws and regulations.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to existing and future employees, and hire and oversee contracted, short-term service-providers.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience at the executive level, either as an employee or an entrepreneur, including the successful management of contractual commitments and assets.
  • Experience in developing and successfully implementing strategic and business plans.
  • Strong construction, engineering, financial management, and business acumen.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.
  • Solid leadership skills and the ability to foster a positive and supportive work culture.
  • Previous experience selling materials into the construction industry a strong asset.
  • Awareness and sophistication to work productively with European and other international vendors an asset.
  • Degree in Business, Marketing, or related fields.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
