Ducks Unlimited Canada has been conserving wetlands and other natural spaces for waterfowl, wildlife, and people for more than 80 years. We are looking for a Director of Advertising and Promotion to join their team. This role can be based in any city across Canada.

Reporting to the Chief Marketing & Communications Officer, the Director of Advertising & Promotions is a critical part of the marketing leadership team – overseeing creative, advertising campaigns, ecommerce, and database marketing and analytics. They are a strategic leader with a creative mind, an aptitude for problem solving, and a talent for translating data into actionable insights. Overseeing the advertising budget, the Director of Advertising & Promotions collaborates with stakeholders on priority initiatives to maximize the return on investment or objective.

Working in close collaboration with the Director of Brand & Communications, this role is responsible for translating key organizational messages into cross-platform campaigns and targeting the right audiences with the right message at the right time. Leveraging internal capabilities and external partnerships, this role aims to grow and engage the supporter database. A proven implementer and skilled multi-tasker, they are both detail oriented and digitally savvy.

We are looking for an established leader who leads with kindness and respect. Responsibility will include managing 5 direct reports and 4 indirect reports.


· Effectively manage an advertising program and budget on Google and various social media platforms

· Find ways to convert “call to actions” into marketing and advertising campaigns (calls to action vary significantly from volunteer/donation campaigns, fee for service conservation projects, to HR recruitment for the overall organization).

· Analyze and interpret marketing data, including cost per acquisition

· Wordsmith organizational messaging to ensure marketing and advertising objectives are achieved

· Understand organizational priorities and ensure that the advertising and promotions budget is used in the most optimal and effective way to achieve objectives

· Support areas of the organization with the proposal and implementation of commercial ‘go to market’ strategies

· Ensure that the design, promotions, ecommerce, and database marketing teams have the necessary training, tools, and support to be successful in their roles

· Lead the ecommerce team to maximize website traffic and goal conversion, as well as visitor experience while reducing administration

· Ensure the team is leveraging enterprise marketing tools to manage the marketing funnel and execute 1-to-1 marketing campaigns with a goal of acquiring, retaining, and engaging supporters

· Lead the design team to translate brand strategy and positioning documents into brand design guides and assets

· Stay up to date with the latest tools and strategies for advertising and digital marketing


· 10+ years of experience in digital marketing focused on advertising campaigns, ecommerce, media buying and analytics

· An interest, knowledge or passion for the environment, sustainability and ecological restoration is a major asset

· Strong understanding of digital marketing principles and best practices, including audience segmentation user experience mapping and customer journey

· Commercially minded, highly analytical individual with experience onboarding and optimizing digital marketing platforms

· Comfortable leading projects and campaigns in a dynamic and fast paced environment

· Experience developing and managing a departmental budget to support organizational objectives

· Demonstrated track record of success in cross-functional collaboration

· Creative, self-motivated, and results-oriented professional

· Experience providing coaching, guidance, and mentorship to develop the skills and careers of team members

· Skilled in team building and conflict resolution

· Analytical mentality – able to break down digital analytics and assess cost per acquisition and other KPIs

· Experience driving a marketing and sales funnel within an organization, and working collaboratively with sales
