Our client is a well-established food processing plant on Quadra Island (a short ferry ride from Campbell River).  They are looking for a CPA or CPA student to join their accounting team.  The suitable individual will have two to three years working in a Canadian manufacturing or other operations environment.  You will be a key support to the Controller on the five-person accounting team.

Responsibilities:

  • Support to and backup for the Controller
  • Production and Inventory data entry, tracking, and reporting for multiple storage locations
  • Reconcile capital asset, prepaids and other balance sheet accounts
  • Review accounts payable, prepare/review cheque runs, assist with data entry as required
  • Processing payroll for 100 employees, both hourly and salaried
  • Coordinate and liaise with production and sales departments
  • Assist in preparing financial statements
  • Review and analyze financial statements and inventory data
  • Ad hoc and statutory reporting
  • Liaise with external auditors

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of manufacturing or operational accounting experience is required
  • Working towards a degree or designation is preferred, or equivalent education and experience
  • Food processing, forestry, or other resource processing industry experience highly preferred

Required Competencies:

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Excel at an intermediate to advanced level utilizing pivot tables and advanced formulas to filter, sort, and manipulate data.
  • Proficiency with other MS Office and Teams applications, including Sharepoint
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong analytical intuition, problem solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written English communication skills
  • Ability to take direction, work in a collaborative team environment, as well as to effectively work independently
  • Knowledge of internal controls and their application
  • Understand the importance of teamwork and have a positive impact on the team
  • Open-minded and positive in dealing with change and new ways of doing things

Take personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work

  • Available to work occasional overtime, when necessary
