Our client is one of the largest terminal operations companies in Canada providing a variety of services across British Columbia. They are currently in need of a Maintenance Manager who will be responsible for the strategic oversight and management of engineering, procurement, maintenance, and repair to ensure maximum operational availability, reliability, and safety of the equipment and facility assets of the facility. The Maintenance Manager also cultivates a positive environment of safety, and inclusion, and enables operational excellence through leadership by example.

Responsibilities:

• Support the strategic planning process through the creation of KPIs and goals and leading the maintenance team to successfully achieve/surpass the set targets

• Manage the Maintenance Superintendent & Maintenance Coordinator and provide leadership and oversight in work allocation, schedule maintenance, training and education, document storage, and mentorship and coaching

• Have a thorough understand of the Collective Agreement/Black Book to be able to provide support, direction, and oversight on various topics such as work refusals, RWF hiring, Foreperson recruitment, discipline and arbitration, workforce requirements, despatch, and the parameters surrounding foreperson rotation

• Act as an ambassador of change and play a leadership role in creating a respectful environment by implementing the new regulations outlined in the Harassment and Violence Prevention Policy

• Provide support and direction in workplace Investigations by ensuring proper policies are followed, accurate reporting, and follow through with corrective actions

• Develop, plan, and maintain scheduled and unscheduled preventative and corrective equipment maintenance programs

• Develop, plan, and maintain scheduled and unscheduled preventative and corrective facilities maintenance programs

• Manage third-party contractors

• Oversee the full life cycle of all goods, material, and equipment procurement

• Develop capital expenditure forecasts, budgets, requests, and execution for all facilities and equipment

 

Qualifications:

• A degree in engineering or trade certification

• Thorough knowledge of modern reliability and maintenance best practices of port terminal business, including IT-based enterprise asset management systems

• Comprehensive hands-on experience in managing the engineering, procurement, maintenance, and repair areas of a port terminal facility

• Heavy industry background

• Broad understanding of terminal handling equipment and stevedoring gear

• Sound interpretation of Collective Agreements

• Regulations – Labor Codes & IMO MOSH & COSH

• In-depth understanding of company policies and procedures

• Proven leadership skills with the ability to build relationships across all levels and functional areas of the organization, fostering trust and integrity

• Strong business acumen and bottom-line orientation as it relates to decision-making that impacts the organization

• Mathematics & trigonometry skills

• Problem-solving/decision-making skills
