Our client is a dynamic and growing group of restaurants head quartered in Vancouver.  This is a newly created position for an individual with high energy who enjoys a fast pace.

 

You will direct the HR strategy and functions including employee experience and engagement, HR Governance and technology, policy and procedures compliance, employee relations and health and safety.  Ensuring the strategies and policies are developed in alignment with strategic business objectives.  You are a key resource to senior management, operational manager, and all staff.  You will drive the organizational effectiveness by ensuring its people policies are pro-active and meet organizational objectives.  You will advise on legal compliance with employment standards, human rights, and workplace safety.

 

Responsibilities:

Employee Experience:

  • Is the key advocate and driver of company culture and employee engagement. Selects, implements, and utilizes various tools and communication processes to maintain a pulse on the people to ensure that we are a world class employer.
  • Determines and recommends practices necessary to establish a world class environment where talented people throughout the organization are able to learn, grow, and discover their full potential.

People Technology and Systems:

  • Has overall accountability for HR related technology including the functioning of the company’s Human Resource Information system and the training of those who utilize it.  Continues to maximize utilization of systems to their fullest potential in support of company initiatives.
  • Responsible for talent analytics across all People and Culture verticals, including integration between application tracking system, learning management system, employee engagement systems etc.
  • Drive streamline and optimization of each technology and ensure smooth employee experience across all platforms

HR Governance:

  • Conducts a continuing study of all Human Resources policies, programs, and practices to keep management informed of new developments.
  • Selects and supervises Human Resources consultants, attorneys, and coordinates company use of outside sources
  • Directs the preparation and maintenance of reports as are necessary to carry out the functions of the department. Prepares periodic reports for management, as necessary or requested, to track strategic goal accomplishment.

Employee Relations, Legal and Compliance:

  • Leads the implementation of company safety and health programs. Monitors compliance throughout the company.
  • Leads company compliance with all existing governmental and labor legal and government reporting requirements. Maintains minimal company exposure to lawsuits.
  • Directs the preparation of information requested or required for compliance with laws. Approves all information submitted.
  • Protects the interests of employees and the company in accordance with company Human Resources policies and governmental laws and regulations.
  • Monitors and advises managers and supervisors in the progressive discipline systemof the company. Monitors the implementation of a performance improvement process with non-performing employees.
  • Reviews, guides, and approves management recommendations for employment terminations.
  • Participates in the broader British Columbia HR community to further the reputation of the company as a world class employer.

Qualifications:

  • Solid progressive Human Resources experience with at least 4 years in a Human Resources leadership capacity with direct reports.
  • University degree with a major in Human Resources or related field. Recognized professional designation such as Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) considered an asset.
  • Highly motivated, energetic, and a natural leader and influencer.
  • Broad knowledge and experience in employment law, compensation, organizational planning, organization development, employee relations, safety, and analytics.
  • Outgoing personality with the ability to develop relationships with a broad mix of people through awareness of the audience and the flexibility to adapt to the environment.
  • Experience in retail or hospitality, specifically in multi-unit organization with more than 1,000 employees.
  • Brings a common-sense approach to their work and operates well under pressure.
  • Is creative and innovative in their approach. Looks for opportunities to minimize process and needless red tape.
  • Work well under pressure, and cool under fire
  • Extensive hands-on experience managing legal compliance issues in multiple provinces
  • Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills and the ability to deliver clear, positive and compelling presentations.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills and the ability to consistently produce professional work within tight timelines.
  • Ability to think strategically at an organizational level and to collaborate with a wide range of internal and external experts.
  • Desire and ability to develop and continuously motivate a highly effective and positive team.
