Our client is a junior mining company looking to add a very important executive management position to their team. The successful incumbent will work closely with the CEO and CFO on the company’s exploration strategy. He or she will have full budgetary and financial accountability for exploration work. The VP of Exploration will represent and account for the company’s exploration work in Mexico, reporting to the Board of Directors and management team in Vancouver. We are looking for candidates who are fluent in Spanish and English, who are willing to spend time in the field in Mexico. The successful individual must be a geologist and have at least 15 years of experience in mining, ideally in a similar exploration role with a large mining company. Our client is engaged in mostly surface mining activities.

Relocation assistance to Vancouver or support for the right individual to live in Mazatlán will be provided, depending on the candidate.


  • Implement and manage all exploration and resource programs for the company
  • Apply best practices in terms of sustainability, safety and compliance
  • Prepare, manage and communicate explorations plans, budgets and goals with management
  • Work closely with on-site personnel in mine planning
  • Maintain compliancy with regulations, ensuring environmental, safety and all applicable permits and licenses are in place
  • Lead and mentor a team of geologists
  • Liaise with government agencies and communities to ensure positive relationships and connections
  • Identify and create drilling programs that identify resource additions and/or conversions
  • Develop systems and processes to monitor and track the status of resources, reserves and reserve replacement
  • Monitor sampling and data collection programs
  • Interpret and analyze drilling results as well as geological and geotechnical information to develop models for current and future exploration and evaluations of mining reserves/resources
  • Identify future regulatory requirements
  • Promote health, safety and environmental responsibility


  • Degree in Geology
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in the mining industry
  • 5 years of experience in a management position in the mining industry
  • Fluency in both Spanish and English
  • Experience working in Mexico is a major asset
  • Willing to travel and spend time in Mexico
  • Experience and an interest in mentoring young geologists
  • High level geological and exploration experience in the mining industry – ideally with large mining companies in gold or silver mining
  • Experience managing large budgets and teams while adhering to compliance and regulation mechanisms
  • An exceptional leader with strong business acumen
  • Track record of success within the industry
  • Strong understanding of deposit models, exploration models and various geological targeting methodologies used in exploration and drilling
