Our client is a well-established distribution company with sales in Canada and the US.  They are a mid-sized, multinational company looking for a Manager, Accounting and Tax. New ownership is a publicly traded company in Sweden, and they are providing world class expertise and expansion internationally.

This role is ideal for a CPA who has a foundation in public practice and one to two years of industry experience.  Great opportunity to be mentored by experienced VP Finance.  You will be working in IFRS, developing internal controls, responsible for tax compliance, tax planning, tax audits and tax preparation for both US and Canada.

Candidates should demonstrate a strong accounting knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and of accounting standards for private enterprises (ASPE). But also, strong understanding of internal control processes and tax compliance. Responsibilities:

Accounting & Audit:

  • Accounting: Reconciliations of complex accounting, review of month end accounting, and assist with day-to-day banking processes.
  • Accounting Policies: Draft IFRS accounting memos and implement accounting policies and practices.
  • Internal Controls: Monitor and implement financial controls in accordance with company’s procedures and improve accounting procedures and processes. In coordination with VP Finance to improve control environment and systems.
  • Reporting: Assist with portions of management reports, external financial statements with note disclosures, budgets, and financial metrics. In coordination with Manager Financial Reporting and VP Finance.
  • Audit: Assist with coordinating year-end audit activities with external auditors.
  • Ad hoc: Providing management with financial information vital to the decision-making process, overseeing transfer pricing policy and documentation to ensure alignment with global regulations, monthly sales rep commission calculations report, and other.

Tax:

  • Tax Compliance: Ensure tax compliance for Canada, US, and Australia provincial/state and federal tax laws and regulations.
  • Tax Planning: Develop and implement effective tax planning strategies to minimize the company’s tax liabilities.
  • Tax Audits: Manage tax audits and inquiries, liaising with tax authorities as necessary.
  • Tax Preparation: Prepare and review tax returns, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

Other:

  • Supporting the Vice President/CFO with workflow process and pursuing special projects.
  • Supervising the Month End Accountant that also oversees the two A/P staff.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, working closely with the Finance Team members in a positive team environment.

 Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field and chartered professional accountant designation (CPA)
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, auditing, and tax management, preferably in a multinational corporate environment and public practice (big four audit firms).
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS accounting, internal controls, and international tax regulations.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Superior data analysis, data management skills, and accounting systems.
