Our client has over 25 years of experience providing premium construction services for both residential and commercial projects.  They have always taken a client first approach, allowing them to create long-lasting client relationships built on trust, integrity, and respect.  They have highly skilled and experienced professionals that are equipped to handle all of their client’s construction needs.  They are looking for a Site Superintendent to work on a commercial project in Port Alberni.  This role is a key part of the fulfillment of the promises they make to their customers.

Responsibilities:

Deliverables

  1. Maximum of 7 minor deficiencies at turnover determined by the PM.
  2. Deliver the Project on or before the scheduled delivery date.
  3. Zero Man Days lost due to injury.
  4. Deliver Project on or under budget.

Accountabilities

Deliverable 1 – Ensure High Standard of Quality:

  1. Have a clear understanding of project scope of work, project drawings, and project specifications.
  2. Read and have a complete understanding of subcontracts and ensure all trades are completing their work as per their scope.
  3. Review and have a complete understanding of all shop drawings.
  4. Double check all work being produced by your crew members and subtrades to proactively prevent deficiencies.
  5. Walk through project daily to ensure no major deficiencies and ensure project remains on schedule.
  6. Maintain up-to-date punch list on a weekly basis.
  7. Immediately address deficiencies with trades and have them make corrections to prevent production delays.
  8. Ensure that job site is always kept neat and clean. Hold trades accountable to keep their job site clean as per their contracts.
  9. Deal with all deficiencies from owner and provide sign-off of turn-over deficiencies.
  10. Deal with all one-year deficiencies related to your project.

 Deliverable 2 – Delivering project on schedules:

  1. Review schedule at beginning of project and provide any input to the Project Manager.
  2. Adjust schedule and provide weekly outlook schedules to Project Manager prior to GSR Meetings.
  3. Maintain regular contact with the Project Manger to ensure that all project progress is on track, related changes to project timelines, work scope, design, and/or Change Orders.
  4. Communicate regularly with subtrades to ensure they are aware of schedule.
  5. Call subtrades one week in advance and request what they need completed before they arrive.
  6. Call subtrades one day in advance and confirm they are coming.
  7. Fill out daily reports thoroughly on software provided.

 Deliverable 3 – Safety

  1. Ensure that you have a clear understanding of the company Safety Manual
  2. Ensure you have a clear understanding of the Worker’s Compensation Act and WorkSafe BC Regulations and that they are being adhered to.
  3. Ensure that all sub trade and employees have site safety orientations.
  4. Ensure that Hazard Assessments are done on each major task.
  5. Ensure that all site personal is following the company Safety Manual
  6. Ensure Site Safety inspections are completed on a weekly basis.
  7. Ensure Safety concerns are addressed promptly.
  8. Ensure recommendations from Corporate CSO are followed.
  9. Ensure Disciplinary actions are taken when safety is not followed on site.
  10. Ensure Toolbox Talks are carried out weekly and uploaded into the Daily Report.

Deliverable 4 – Delivering Project on Budget.

  1. Ensure that correct material is ordered with PO, any excess material is sent back to supplier asap.
  2. Ensure that all trades are back charged for damage or items in their contract that they neglect to do.
  3. Ensure that all site employees are working efficiently and allocating the correct manpower to the proper job with expectations set for site employees.
  4. Ensure that Site employee hours are cost coded to applicable work completed.
  5. Ensure that you are aware of all subcontractor’s scope work and report any discrepancies to the project manager.
  6. Ensure that you have received (if possible) 3 quotes on all rented equipment.
  7. Ensure that all rental equipment is sent back promptly.
  8. Ensure that you are aware of labor hours required for the job and fill out labor projections as required.
  9. Ensure that PO’s are properly filled out and cost coded correctly.
  10. Ensure credit card receipts are handed into AP on a weekly basis.

Qualifications:

  • Red Seal Certificate of Qualification in the trade of Carpenter.
  • 5 years of experience as a Site Superintendent
  • Computer Skills
  • Leadership and mentoring skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Level 2 First Aid is a Benefit
  • Organizational skills
  • Valid Divers License
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Not afraid to make tough decisions and act on them.
  • Ability to run an affective site meeting.
  • Proficient in MS Outlook
